The Role
We are seeking compassionate and enthusiastic BSL Teaching Assistants to work with hearing-impaired students in mainstream and specialist schools. You will play a key role in supporting their learning, providing communication assistance, and ensuring their full participation in school activities. This is a rewarding opportunity to help students reach their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting students who use British Sign Language to access lessons and interact with their peers.
- Assisting classroom teachers in adapting learning materials and classroom activities for hearing-impaired students.
- Offering one-to-one or small group support where necessary.
- Encouraging and facilitating effective communication between students, teachers, and other staff members.
- Ensuring a safe and positive learning environment for students with additional needs.
Requirements
- A minimum Level 2 qualification in British Sign Language (BSL) or equivalent.
- Experience working with children or young people, ideally in an educational setting.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
- Patience, empathy, and a passion for working with children with special educational needs.
- An enhanced DBS check (or willingness to apply for one).
