About the role

Vision for Education are proud to be working in partnership with a multi academy trust in the UK and are looking for a Headteacher for a school in Cornwall

The main purpose of the role is to provide inspirational and visionary leadership and to be responsible for the effective day to day operational management of the school.

The successful candidate will ensure that the aims and objectives for the school are implemented in accordance with both the trust’s policies and national/local education strategies.

You will continue to develop the outstanding educational provision and create a secure and stable education environment, so that students fulfil their potential. The successful candidate will be supported by both the school’s leadership team and executive headteacher in achieving these aims.

Responsibilities of the role include:

  • Deliver and sustain educational excellence throughout the school through a range of leadership strategies
  • Work closely with the Executive Head, the Trust CEO, & central team to implement and monitor the strategic vision for the school
  • Develop the school to become a sustainable, outstanding, specialist provision – developing partnerships with students, parents, the local community, the wider trust and beyond
  • Develop innovative ways of teaching & learning to meet the needs of students of all abilities and SEMH needs
  • Effectively manage the deployment, appraisal, work performance, and continuous professional development (CPD) of all staff

About the school

The school is part of a MAT that consists of several SEND schools. The school is an alternative provision that provides education for boys aged 8 – 14 who have been permanently excluded or are at risk of permanent exclusion from mainstream schools.

The school believes that with the right support for their Social, Emotional and/or Mental Health (SEMH) needs, their children and young people can learn to change their behaviour, to re-engage positively with learning, and prepare for life as a successful citizen.

Through a trauma informed approach, they aim to provide a caring, supporting and challenging learning environment in which students will overcome their barriers to learning and successfully reintegrate into their local mainstream school or another appropriate education provider.

The school has a mixture of day and residential students as boarding places are offered to children designated as having SEMH needs whose life at home can impact adversely upon their engagement with education.

Requirements include:

  • Teaching qualification with QTS / QTLS (essential)
  • Completed NPQH or working towards it (desirable)
  • Senior leadership experience within a special educational setting
  • Record of successfully implementing initiatives to raise standards
  • Experience of analysing and using school performance data
  • Understanding of SEND in a specialist setting, particularly SEMH needs

In return, the trust offer:

  • Leadership salary plus residential allowance
  • Teachers’ Pension Scheme
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Subsidised annual staff trip
  • CPD – 6 professional development days a year with full program of training for all roles
  • Supportive working environment
