SEN Teaching Assistant

About the role

Vision for Education is seeking an experienced Learning Support Assistant to work in an SEN School in Kidderminster on a full-time basis.

Hours 8.30am-3.30pm Monday-Friday

The role:

  • As a member of the support team at the School, you will play a vital part in the day-to-day care, learning, and wellbeing of pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD), and complex needs.
  • You will work closely with teaching staff, therapists, and the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver a broad, balanced, and individualised curriculum that supports pupils' academic progress, communication development, emotional wellbeing, and physical needs.
  • Your role will involve supporting pupils in the classroom, during therapy sessions, and throughout the wider school environment — including personal care, mobility support, and access to sensory and vocational activities.
  • You will contribute to creating a positive, safe, and stimulating environment that promotes independence, builds confidence, and celebrates every child’s achievements, no matter how small.
  • This is a rewarding and dynamic role that requires patience, flexibility, and a genuine commitment to making a difference in the lives of children and young people with additional needs.

About the school:

  • The school is a specialist provision for children and young people aged 4 to 19 with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD), whose needs cannot be met within a mainstream setting.
  • The school is committed to meeting the holistic needs of every pupil, academic, social, emotional, and physical, through a nurturing and inclusive approach. Its core values of enthusiasm, resilience, honesty, teamwork, and trust underpin all aspects of school life.
  • The School delivers a bespoke Pathway curriculum that is broad, balanced, and highly personalised. Pupils benefit from access to outstanding specialist facilities, including soft play areas, a dark room, sensory rooms, a vocational hub, a hydropool, and a gym with rebound therapy equipment.
  • A dedicated communication team provides continuous support and training within the school, for families, and as part of an outreach offer to external settings. Visitors are warmly welcomed, and appointments can be arranged via the school office.

About you:-

We are looking for candidates who:

  • Compassionate, resilient, and adaptable individual who is passionate about supporting children and young people with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD), and complex needs.
  • You thrive in a collaborative environment, value teamwork, and are committed to building trusting relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues.
  • You understand the importance of personalised, holistic education and are motivated by the opportunity to help every child reach their full potential — academically, emotionally, socially, and physically.
  • You are open to ongoing professional development and willing to engage with specialist approaches, including communication strategies, sensory integration, and therapeutic support.
  • Have relevant experience supporting students with autism, social, emotional, physical and learning difficulties.
  • Can provide appropriate references and pass a DBS check.

Salary is dependent on experience, training or qualifications. The minimum experience, training or qualifications required for this position are a suitable qualification for working with children and experience working with special education needs.

Vision for Education is committed to safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults. We take our responsibilities extremely seriously. All staff we register will undertake thorough interviewing and referencing checks and hold, or be prepared to undergo, an Enhanced DBS check that must be registered on the Update Service.
