Vision for Education is delighted to have teamed up with Hedley Education Solutions to provide a series of online training sessions for secondary ECTs. Led by Deputy Headteacher Eve Hedley, who has over 22 years classroom experience alongside working as a coach, mentor and consultant, these sessions will help secondary ECTs feel confident in the classroom as they start their journey working in education. All sessions are completely free of charge and will be delivered online via Zoom.
Classroom management and behaviour for learning
Date: Thursday 26th May 2022
Time: 5pm-7pm
Top survival tips for dealing with new classes, challenging behaviour and low-level disruption. The session will provide a range of strategies and activities, such as establishing routines, ensuring high expectations, body language, power of voice and self-belief.
Accelerate progress in lessons
Date: Tuesday 7th June 2022
Time: 5pm-6pm
The session will look at how to design and structure a lesson to accelerate progress and achievement for all students following disruption.
Dialogue & questioning
Date: Thursday 9th June 2022
Time: 5pm-6pm
Expert questioning which engages pupils in high quality classroom talk is essential to deepen thinking and embed learning. This session looks at how to set up a climate of dialogic teaching and learning in your classroom.
Making the learning stick
Date: Thursday 30th June 2022
Time: 5pm-6pm
This session will focus on memory and theory about how the brain learns. It will also provide a range of strategies to help you enable learners to retain knowledge and revise effectively.
Responsive teaching
Date: Thursday 7th July 2022
Time: 5pm-6pm
Focussing on why we need to adopt a responsive style to teaching if all pupils are to achieve their learning potential. and looking at the ways we can tweak our practice to ensure we are catering for all of our students’ needs. There will be a range of practical strategies and activities to take away.
Mental health & wellbeing
Date: Thursday 14th July 2022
Time: 5pm-6pm
This session is about raising awareness of mental health, which is becoming increasingly more common in our society and schools. It will look at the different mental health conditions and how to spot them and will also equip staff with basic mental health first aid strategies.
