About the role

SEND Learning Support Assistant (Driver)
Vision for Education – Chelmsford, Essex

Vision for Education is seeking a dedicated SEND Learning Support Assistant with access to a vehicle and a full UK driving licence to support pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) across educational settings in and around Chelmsford.

Role Overview

As a SEND Learning Support Assistant, you will provide tailored support to children and young people with a range of additional needs, helping them access learning, develop independence, and achieve their educational goals. Due to the nature of the role, candidates must be able to drive and commute independently to various school locations and placements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with SEND on a one-to-one basis and in small groups.
  • Assist teachers in delivering engaging and inclusive learning activities.
  • Promote positive behaviour, wellbeing, and social development.
  • Adapt support strategies to meet individual pupil needs.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, parents, and other professionals.
  • Monitor and record pupil progress and contribute to support plans.
  • Maintain high standards of safeguarding and child protection.
  • Travel independently to schools and educational settings across Chelmsford and surrounding areas as required.

Requirements

  • Full UK driving licence and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Ability to commute to different school locations.
  • Experience working with children or young people, preferably within SEND settings.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patient, adaptable, and enthusiastic approach to supporting learning.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Desirable

  • Experience supporting pupils with Autism, ADHD, SEMH, or complex learning needs.
  • Teaching Assistant qualification or relevant childcare/education experience.
  • Knowledge of SEND strategies and behaviour management techniques.
