Job Summary

Do you work in care and want to make a difference in a classroom?

Your experience supporting people, building trusting relationships, managing challenging situations and helping individuals develop their independence could make you an excellent Teaching Assistant.

We are recruiting Teaching Assistants across Hereford to work within a range of schools, including specialist SEND settings.

You don't necessarily need previous classroom experience. We're particularly interested in people from care and support backgrounds who want to transfer their skills into education.

The School and Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside teachers and wider school teams to support children and young people with their learning, development and wellbeing.

Depending on the setting, you could be working with pupils in a mainstream classroom or supporting children and young people with SEND and complex needs within a specialist school.

Your responsibilities may include:

• Supporting pupils to access classroom learning.

• Providing 1:1 and small-group support.

• Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils.

• Supporting communication, social and independence skills.

• Encouraging positive behaviour and emotional regulation.

• Helping pupils overcome barriers to learning.

• Assisting teachers with classroom activities.

• Providing practical and personal support where required.

• Supporting pupils with additional and complex needs.

• Helping create a calm, safe and nurturing environment.

• Working closely with teachers, support staff and other professionals.

Some specialist settings may also involve supporting pupils with personal care, mobility, communication, feeding or complex medical needs, depending on the individual role.

Previous school experience is desirable but not essential if you have strong transferable experience.

A Teaching Assistant qualification is advantageous, but we welcome applications from candidates with relevant care, support work, youth work or residential experience.
