Early Childhood Education Room Leader

Level 3 Qualified – Baby Room (3 months–2 years) Mark Cross, East Sussex 4 days per week – 37.5 hours Permanent Position

The Nursery and the Role

A warm, nurturing and well‑established nursery in Mark Cross is seeking a dedicated, confident and inspiring Room Leader to take charge of their Baby Room, supporting children aged 3 months to 2 years. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced practitioner who is passionate about early development, attachment‑led practice and creating a safe, stimulating environment for our youngest learners.

This is a 4‑day‑per‑week role, totalling 37.5 hours, worked between Monday and Friday. Shifts follow the nursery’s rotating pattern of early shifts (7:20–17:20) and late shifts (8:30–18:30), alternating weekly.

As Room Leader, you will guide and support your team, ensuring high‑quality care, strong communication and a consistent, nurturing approach. You will lead on planning, safeguarding, parent partnerships and the smooth day‑to‑day running of the room.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the Baby Room team, ensuring a warm, responsive and inclusive environment

• Plan and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate activities

• Support children’s emotional, physical and cognitive development

• Maintain high standards of safeguarding, health and safety and room organisation

• Build strong, trusting relationships with families

• Model best practice and mentor junior staff

• Ensure compliance with the EYFS and Ofsted requirements

The Ideal Room Leader Will Have:

• Level 3 Childcare qualification (essential)

• At least 1 year of experience leading a team in an early years or care setting

• Strong understanding of the EYFS and child development

• Excellent organisational and communication skills

• A nurturing, calm and proactive approach

• Experience working with babies and supporting early attachment

• A commitment to inclusive practice and SEND awareness

• Knowledge of safeguarding and the Children’s Act 1989
