The Nursery and the Role
A warm, nurturing and well‑established nursery in Mark Cross is seeking a dedicated, confident and inspiring Room Leader to take charge of their Baby Room, supporting children aged 3 months to 2 years. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced practitioner who is passionate about early development, attachment‑led practice and creating a safe, stimulating environment for our youngest learners.
This is a 4‑day‑per‑week role, totalling 37.5 hours, worked between Monday and Friday. Shifts follow the nursery’s rotating pattern of early shifts (7:20–17:20) and late shifts (8:30–18:30), alternating weekly.
As Room Leader, you will guide and support your team, ensuring high‑quality care, strong communication and a consistent, nurturing approach. You will lead on planning, safeguarding, parent partnerships and the smooth day‑to‑day running of the room.
Key Responsibilities

Lead the Baby Room team, ensuring a warm, responsive and inclusive environment

Plan and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate activities

Support children’s emotional, physical and cognitive development

Maintain high standards of safeguarding, health and safety and room organisation

Build strong, trusting relationships with families

Model best practice and mentor junior staff

Ensure compliance with the EYFS and Ofsted requirements
The Ideal Room Leader Will Have:

Level 3 Childcare qualification (essential)

At least 1 year of experience leading a team in an early years or care setting

Strong understanding of the EYFS and child development

Excellent organisational and communication skills

A nurturing, calm and proactive approach

Experience working with babies and supporting early attachment
-
A commitment to inclusive practice and SEND awareness

Knowledge of safeguarding and the Children’s Act 1989
