Job Summary

We are working with Kitts Green Academy in Birmingham, a specialist school supporting boys with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, to recruit a committed and resilient Pastoral Manager.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in pastoral care, behaviour support, youth work, residential care or education who wants to make a meaningful difference in a specialist setting.

The School and Role

Kitts Green Academy is a specialist provision supporting boys with complex SEMH needs, with some pupils also presenting with Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC) and ADHD.

As Pastoral Manager, you will play a key role in supporting pupils' wellbeing, engagement, behaviour and personal development.

You will work closely with teachers, support staff, families and school leaders to help create a safe, structured and positive environment where pupils can develop the skills they need to succeed.

The role requires someone who can balance high expectations with empathy, consistency and an understanding of individual needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate pastoral support for pupils.

• Build positive and trusting relationships with young people.

• Support pupils with emotional regulation and behaviour.

• Promote positive attitudes, engagement and attendance.

• Develop and maintain consistent behaviour support strategies.

• Work closely with teaching staff to identify and address barriers to learning.

• Support pupils experiencing social, emotional or behavioural difficulties.

• Communicate effectively with parents, carers and relevant professionals.

• Contribute to individual support plans and pastoral interventions.

• Monitor pupil wellbeing, behaviour and progress.

• Support the implementation of school policies and safeguarding procedures.

• Respond calmly and appropriately to challenging situations.

• Help develop a positive, inclusive and respectful school culture.

We are looking for an experienced and approachable professional who can provide strong pastoral leadership and support.

The ideal candidate may have experience as a:

• Pastoral Manager.

• Pastoral Lead.

• Behaviour Manager.

• Behaviour Mentor.

• Youth Worker.

• Family Support Worker.

• Residential Support Worker.

• Children's Services Professional.

• Learning Mentor.

• SEND Support Professional.

You will need to demonstrate:

• Experience supporting children or young people.

• Strong knowledge of behaviour support and pastoral care.

• Excellent relationship-building and communication skills.

• A calm, consistent and resilient approach.

• Confidence managing challenging situations.

• The ability to work collaboratively with staff, families and external agencies.

• Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.

• A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.

• The ability to maintain professional boundaries while developing trusting relationships.

Experience working with SEMH, ASC, ADHD or complex behavioural needs would be advantageous.
