Reception Teacher – Full Time – January 2027 Start

Location: DL2 Area, Darlington
Salary: Dependent on experience and qualifications
Job Type: Full Time
Start Date: January 2027
Duration: Longer-term placement

About the Role

Vision for Education is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, dedicated and experienced Reception Teacher to work within a welcoming primary school in the DL2 area of Darlington.

This is a full-time, longer-term teaching opportunity starting in January 2027, offering an excellent opportunity for a committed Early Years practitioner to join a supportive school environment and make a positive impact on children's learning and development.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for teaching a Reception class, supporting children as they develop the essential skills, knowledge and confidence needed for their transition into Key Stage 1.

You will play a key role in delivering engaging, play-based learning experiences that promote children's early literacy, phonics, numeracy, communication, social skills and independence.

Previous Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) teaching experience is highly desirable. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the EYFS framework and be confident creating an engaging, nurturing and stimulating learning environment where all children can thrive.

The Role

Working as part of a supportive and experienced school team, the successful Reception Teacher will be responsible for delivering high-quality teaching and learning that supports children's academic, social and emotional development.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Planning and delivering engaging, creative and age-appropriate lessons in line with the EYFS framework.

  • Taking responsibility for the teaching, learning and development of a Reception class.

  • Providing opportunities for purposeful play, exploration and practical learning.

  • Developing children's early reading, phonics, writing, communication and mathematical skills.

  • Supporting children's understanding of letter sounds, blending, segmenting and early reading.

  • Creating a safe, inclusive, stimulating and well-organised classroom environment.

  • Providing a balance of adult-led activities and child-initiated learning experiences.

  • Assessing and monitoring children's progress against the EYFS early learning goals.

  • Identifying individual learning needs and adapting activities to support children's development.

  • Promoting positive behaviour, independence, resilience and confidence.

  • Supporting children's personal, social and emotional development.

  • Building positive relationships with pupils, parents, carers and colleagues.

  • Working collaboratively with teaching assistants and other school staff to support learning.

  • Maintaining accurate assessment records and contributing to observations and reporting.

  • Supporting children with additional needs and ensuring inclusive learning opportunities.

  • Helping children develop the skills and confidence needed for a successful transition into Year 1.

  • Following school policies and safeguarding procedures to ensure children's safety and wellbeing.

The successful candidate will be nurturing, organised and confident teaching within Reception, with a genuine passion for helping young children develop the foundations they need to succeed.

The Setting

This welcoming primary school in the DL2 area of Darlington is seeking an experienced Reception Teacher to join its team on a full-time, longer-term basis from January 2027.

The school is committed to providing a positive and inclusive learning environment where children feel safe, supported and encouraged to achieve their potential.

This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher with a passion for Early Years education who is looking for a longer-term role within a supportive primary school setting.

Requirements

To be considered for the Reception Teacher position, you will:

  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

  • Have experience teaching within the Early Years Foundation Stage, ideally in Reception.

  • Have a strong understanding of the EYFS framework and early learning goals.

  • Understand the importance of play-based learning and child development.

  • Have a good understanding of phonics, early reading, writing and mathematics.

  • Be confident planning, delivering and assessing engaging learning activities.

  • Demonstrate effective classroom and behaviour management skills.

  • Be able to differentiate activities to support children with varying abilities and developmental needs.

  • Have excellent communication, organisation and teamwork skills.

  • Be caring, adaptable, proactive and committed to raising children's achievement.

  • Be able to build positive relationships with children, colleagues and families.

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting children's welfare.

  • Be available to work full-time from January 2027 on a longer-term basis.
