This is a vital role in supporting students who have been excluded or cannot attend mainstream schools due to behavioural, emotional, or medical needs. The role is both challenging and rewarding, requiring resilience, adaptability, and a strong understanding of behaviour management.

This role is offered on a full-time basis Monday-Friday.

Hours:-

About the Role:

  • You will play a vital role in supporting students who have been excluded or cannot attend mainstream schools due to behavioural, emotional, or medical needs.
  • Deliver pre-prepared lessons when teachers are absent.
  • Ensure students remain on task and engage with their learning.
  • Provide classroom support in line with PRU policies.
  • Maintain a calm, respectful learning environment.
  • Apply behaviour management strategies consistently and fairly.
  • De-escalate challenging situations and ensure student safety.
  • Support students’ social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.
  • Participate in staff briefings and contribute to behavior support plans.

About the School:

  • A secondary school and Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) dedicated to offering schools, families, and pupils a flexible and supportive range of options designed to encourage rapid progress, re-engagement with learning, and positive change from within.
  • At the heart of the school’s approach is a child-centred philosophy, where every pupil is valued, supported, and challenged to achieve their full potential.
  • The school works closely with students to help them grow, prosper, and develop the skills and confidence they need for the future.
  • Small teaching groups allow staff to build strong, meaningful relationships and make a real difference in students’ lives. If you're passionate about helping young people overcome barriers and succeed, this is a place where you can truly have an impact.

About You:

  • Strong behaviour management skills
  • High emotional intelligence and empathy
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Flexibility and resilience
  • Experience working with children with SEMH or challenging behaviour
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Background in youth work, social care, or education
  • Satisfactory references
