This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in children's lives, helping pupils overcome barriers to learning, build confidence and develop the skills they need to thrive.
Whether you are an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant or have transferable experience from childcare, care work, youth work or similar settings, we would love to hear from you!
The Role
As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers, SENCOs and the wider school team to provide tailored support to pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
Depending on the school and the individual pupil's needs, you may provide dedicated 1:1 support, work with small groups or assist with learning across the classroom.
Your responsibilities will include:
-
Providing 1:1 and small-group support to primary-aged pupils with SEN.
-
Supporting children with additional needs, including autism (ASC), ADHD, speech and language difficulties, learning difficulties and social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH), where relevant.
-
Helping pupils access the curriculum through adapted learning activities and resources.
-
Supporting emotional regulation, positive behaviour and engagement in learning.
-
Encouraging independence, confidence and social development.
-
Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils and school staff.
-
Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and other professionals.
-
Creating a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment.
-
Following individual support plans and promoting safeguarding at all times.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for individuals who are passionate about helping children succeed and understand that every pupil has different needs.
The ideal candidate will have:
-
Experience supporting children with SEN or additional needs, ideally within a primary school.
-
A patient, calm and nurturing approach.
-
The ability to build positive relationships with children and staff.
-
Confidence supporting learning, behaviour and emotional development.
-
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
-
A flexible, proactive and positive attitude.
-
A genuine commitment to inclusive education and pupil wellbeing.
Relevant Teaching Assistant, childcare, SEND or care qualifications are desirable but not essential where suitable experience can be demonstrated.
