SEN Teaching Assistant – Coleford
Vision for Education are looking for a SEN Teaching Assistant to work in a specialist school in Coleford, Gloucestershire.
This is an opportunity to join a supportive school team and work closely with children and young people who have a range of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). The role is varied, and no two days are necessarily the same. You'll be helping pupils with their learning, communication, confidence and independence while providing the patience and consistency they need throughout the school day.
You may work with pupils on a 1:1 basis, in small groups or as part of a wider classroom team. Depending on your experience, you could support children with autism, complex learning needs, communication difficulties, sensory needs, behavioural needs and other additional needs.
Previous SEN experience is useful, but it's not essential. Training and support can be provided, making this a good opportunity for someone looking to move into SEN or build on existing experience working with children or young people.
What the job involves
Your day will vary depending on the pupils you are supporting, but you may be involved in:
- Supporting pupils with SEN and additional learning needs
- Providing 1:1 and small-group support
- Helping children take part in lessons and activities
- Supporting communication, interaction and social skills
- Encouraging pupils to become more independent
- Helping with emotional regulation and positive behaviour
- Supporting sensory and practical activities
- Building trusting relationships with pupils
- Working alongside teachers and other support staff
- Following individual learning and support plans
- Helping maintain a calm, safe and positive classroom
What we're looking for
We're looking for someone who is patient, dependable and comfortable working with children who may need additional support.
You don't need to have worked in a specialist SEN school before. Experience from a Teaching Assistant, SEN TA, LSA, Learning Support Assistant, Support Worker, Care Worker, Youth Worker, Childcare, Sports Coaching or Behaviour Support background can all be valuable.
You should have:
- Experience working with children, young people or vulnerable individuals
- A genuine interest in supporting children with additional needs
- Patience and a calm approach
- Good communication skills
- The ability to build positive relationships
- A willingness to learn and take direction
- Reliability and a positive attitude
- An Enhanced DBS, or willingness to apply
- The Right to Work in the UK
Don't have SEN experience? That's okay. If you have the right attitude and experience working with children or young people, full training and ongoing support can be provided.
