This is a full-time role, working Monday to Friday, supporting a Reception child with additional needs. The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher and wider school team to provide individualised support, helping the child to access learning, develop confidence and independence, and enjoy a positive experience at school.

The role will commence in October 2026 and is ongoing, with the potential to become long-term depending on the needs of the school.

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications.

The minimum experience, training, or qualifications required for this position is a Level 3 qualification or above in Teaching and Supporting Learning. Previous experience supporting children with additional needs within a primary school setting is desirable.

The Role

Working as part of a supportive and enthusiastic teaching team, the desired Teaching Assistant will provide dedicated 1:1 support to a Reception child with additional needs.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Providing consistent 1:1 support to help the child access classroom learning and activities.
  • Supporting the child with their individual learning needs and targets.
  • Helping the child to remain focused and engaged during activities.
  • Supporting communication, social development, confidence, and independence.
  • Providing reassurance, encouragement, and emotional support throughout the school day.
  • Supporting the child with classroom routines and transitions.
  • Supporting positive behaviour and helping the child to develop appropriate strategies for managing challenges.
  • Adapting activities and resources where appropriate to help the child access learning.
  • Encouraging participation in play-based learning and Early Years activities.
  • Supporting the development of early communication, social, and independence skills.
  • Working closely with the class teacher and wider school team to ensure consistent support.
  • Helping to create a safe, inclusive, nurturing, and stimulating learning environment.

The successful candidate will be patient, caring, proactive, and adaptable, with the ability to build a strong and trusting relationship with the child.

The School

The Head Teacher and leadership team are dedicated to providing high-quality education within a supportive and nurturing environment where every child can thrive. To be considered for the 1:1 Teaching Assistant position, you will:

  • Hold a minimum Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools.
  • Have experience working as a Teaching Assistant within a primary school setting.
  • Experience supporting children with additional needs is desirable.
  • Experience working within Reception or an Early Years setting would be advantageous.
  • Have a genuine desire to support children with their individual learning and development.
  • Be patient, nurturing, and able to build a positive relationship with the child.
  • Be able to work effectively alongside the class teacher and wider school team.
  • Demonstrate a positive, flexible, and child-centred approach.
  • Be available to work full time, Monday to Friday.
