SEN Teaching Assistant – Urgently Needed
Vision for Education is urgently recruiting a full-time SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Newport.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Support Worker, Care Worker or graduate who wants to develop their career within SEN and ALN education.
You’ll become an important part of the school team, working alongside teachers and experienced support staff to help pupils overcome barriers to learning, develop their independence and enjoy a positive experience at school.
The Role
As a SEN Teaching Assistant in Newport, you’ll provide tailored support to pupils across primary and secondary age groups, helping them engage with learning and develop both academically and personally.
Your day-to-day responsibilities may include:
- Providing 1:1 and small-group support
- Supporting pupils to access lessons and classroom activities
- Helping deliver personalised learning activities and programmes
- Encouraging communication, confidence and independence
- Supporting pupils with emotional regulation and positive behaviour
- Helping pupils manage transitions, routines and changes throughout the day
- Adapting activities and resources to suit individual learning needs
- Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils
- Encouraging social development and participation
- Creating a calm, safe and supportive classroom environment
- Working closely with teachers and other members of the school team
You may work with pupils with a range of SEN and ALN needs, including:
- Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
- ADHD
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH)
- Moderate and Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD and SLD)
- Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
- Sensory processing needs
- Physical and complex learning needs
Who We're Looking For
We’re looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with children and young people and wants to make a positive difference to their education and development.
Your experience could come from education, care, residential childcare, support work, youth work, sports coaching, psychology, health or social care.
Previous SEN or ALN experience would be an advantage, but it is not essential. We’re particularly interested in candidates who are:
- Caring, patient and approachable
- Confident supporting children and young people
- Able to build strong and professional relationships
- Calm and consistent when faced with challenging behaviour
- Understanding of different communication and learning needs
- Positive and encouraging in their approach
- Reliable and committed to working as part of a team
- Keen to develop a career within SEN and specialist education
A CACHE Level 2, CACHE Level 3 or equivalent qualification is desirable but not essential.
