Job Summary

School-Based Support Workers are required to support learners with severe learning difficulties, autism and complex needs within a specialist SEND school in Hereford. This rewarding role is ideal for candidates from care, support work, healthcare and residential backgrounds who are looking to transfer their skills into education and make a lasting difference to young people's lives.

The School and Role

The school is a specialist SEND school supporting learners aged 11–18 with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and complex medical needs. The academy provides a highly personalised curriculum designed to develop communication, independence and life skills, helping learners prepare for adulthood.

The school is looking to appoint compassionate and proactive School-Based Support Workers to work across a range of departments supporting pupils with varying levels of need. Working alongside teachers, therapists and experienced support staff, you will help learners access a sensory and engagement-based curriculum, develop communication skills and achieve their individual learning goals.

The role includes supporting personal care, mobility and therapy programmes where required, making it particularly suited to candidates with experience in care, residential settings, healthcare or support work. Every day brings new challenges and opportunities to positively impact the lives of young people with additional needs.

This is a long-term opportunity with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.

Requirements

The desired School-Based Support Worker will have;

  • Experience working with children, young people or vulnerable adults is desirable
  • Experience in care, residential support, healthcare or education is advantageous
  • A willingness to support personal care and mobility needs
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A patient, caring and proactive approach
  • A passion for supporting learners with SEND

What we offer

As a School-Based Support Worker, part of our team, you benefit from:

  • Excellent daily rates paid using the PAYE system. (Daily rate is subject to your scale rate, experience in role and qualifications which will be discussed at the point of registration.)
  • Guaranteed pay scheme (subject to availability).
  • Social and networking events.
  • Pension contributions.
  • CPD to help with your professional development.
  • Access to a dedicated consultant.
