Teaching Assistant | Secondary School SEND Department | Preston, Lancashire

Vision for Education is seeking a caring and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to work within a well-established SEND department at a large secondary school in Preston, Lancashire. The school provides an inclusive learning environment where staff work collaboratively to ensure every student reaches their full potential.

Starting in September 2026, this is a temporary long-term Teaching Assistant role with no fixed end date and is expected to continue for the full academic year.

As a Teaching Assistant in Preston, Lancashire, you will support students with a diagnosis of autism, helping them access learning, build confidence and develop their independence both inside and outside the classroom.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing one-to-one and small group support for students with autism.
  • Supporting pupils to engage positively with lessons and classroom activities.
  • Encouraging social, emotional and communication development.
  • Implementing individual support strategies and following EHCP targets.
  • Working closely with teachers and the wider SEND team to create an inclusive learning environment.
  • Promoting positive behaviour and supporting students to achieve their personal and academic goals.
  • Building positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents where appropriate.

Requirements

To be considered for the Teaching Assistant position, you will:

  • Have experience working with secondary age children.
  • Hold a minimum Level 2 childcare qualification or equivalent.
  • Have excellent behaviour management skills.
  • Be a confident communicator, able to use your own initiative when required.
