Vision for Education is working with a well-established secondary school in Carnforth, Lancashire, to recruit a Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support to a Year 7 pupil with autism.

Teaching Assistant – Secondary School, Carnforth, Lancashire
As a Teaching Assistant in Carnforth, you will work closely on a 1:1 basis with a Year 7 pupil with autism, providing tailored support both inside and outside the classroom.
The Teaching Assistant will help the pupil access their learning, develop confidence and independence, and engage positively with school life. You will work alongside teaching staff and the school's SEND team to follow appropriate strategies and provide consistent support based on the pupil's individual needs.
The role will involve:
- Providing dedicated 1:1 support to a Year 7 pupil with autism.
- Helping the pupil access lessons and participate fully in learning.
- Supporting the development of confidence, independence and social skills.
- Providing reassurance and helping the pupil manage the demands of the school environment.
- Supporting positive behaviour and encouraging engagement with learning.
- Working closely with teachers and the school's SEND team.
- Building a positive, trusting and supportive relationship with the pupil.
- Supporting the pupil both academically and pastorally where required.
- Helping the pupil develop strategies to become more independent within the classroom and wider school environment.
The Teaching Assistant position in Carnforth is due to start in November 2026 and will be a long-term temporary role with no set end date.

Requirements
To be considered for the Teaching Assistant position in Carnforth, you will:
- Have experience working with secondary-age children.
- Ideally have experience supporting children or young people with autism or additional needs.
- Hold a minimum Level 2 childcare qualification or equivalent.
- Have excellent behaviour management and communication skills.
- Be patient, understanding and nurturing in your approach.
- Be confident using your own initiative when required.
- Be able to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
- Be committed to supporting pupils with additional needs and helping them achieve their potential.
