Immediate Start

Want to start working in education but don't have previous school experience? If you enjoy working with children and young people and are interested in SEND and additional needs, this could be a great way to get started.

Vision for Education are recruiting Trainee SEN Support Assistants to work in schools across Lydney and the surrounding Forest of Dean area. You'll gain practical experience supporting pupils while receiving free training and guidance to help you develop the skills needed for a career in education.

This role could suit graduates, career changers, support workers, youth workers, sports coaches, childcare professionals or anyone with a genuine interest in supporting children.

What does a Trainee SEN Support Assistant do?

You'll work alongside teachers and experienced support staff, helping pupils get the most from their school day.

Depending on the setting, you could be:

  • Supporting pupils with SEN and SEND on a 1:1 or small-group basis
  • Helping children access lessons and classroom activities
  • Supporting pupils with Autism (ASC), ADHD, SEMH and communication needs
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and engagement
  • Helping children develop confidence, independence and social skills
  • Providing additional support with learning and communication
  • Working with teachers, SENCOs and other support staff
  • Helping create a calm, inclusive and supportive classroom

Every school and pupil is different, so you'll have the opportunity to build experience across a range of SEND needs and learning environments.

Training Provided

You don't need to be an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to apply.

Through our National Teaching Assistant Programme, you'll have access to FREE training covering areas such as:

  • Safeguarding in Education
  • SEND Awareness
  • Behaviour Management
  • Teaching Assistant responsibilities
  • Supporting children and young people in schools

You'll also have ongoing support from your dedicated Vision for Education consultant throughout your placements.

  • Reliable and committed
  • Comfortable working with children and young people
  • Good communicators
  • Calm and consistent when supporting behaviour
  • Willing to learn and take advice from experienced school staff
  • Interested in developing a career in SEN, SEND or education

You will need an Enhanced DBS or be willing to obtain one, along with suitable references and the Right to Work in the UK.
