We’re looking for a warm, enthusiastic and committed Year 1 Teacher to join a friendly primary school in Newmarket, Suffolk, working three days per week.

This is a long-term opportunity for a teacher who enjoys working with younger pupils and wants the consistency of having their own class while maintaining a better work-life balance.

The role

As the Year 1 Teacher, you’ll share responsibility for a Year 1 class, working closely with colleagues to ensure pupils receive consistent, engaging and supportive teaching throughout the week.

You’ll plan and deliver creative lessons that capture pupils’ interest while helping them develop the key skills and confidence they need as they progress through Key Stage 1.

A key part of the role will be supporting children with phonics and early reading, alongside developing their confidence in writing, maths and the wider curriculum.

You’ll also:

• Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate lessons
• Support pupils with a range of needs and abilities
• Deliver high-quality phonics and early reading sessions
• Assess and monitor pupil progress
• Create a positive, nurturing and inclusive classroom environment
• Work closely with Teaching Assistants and other members of staff
• Collaborate with the teacher covering the remainder of the week to provide continuity for pupils

The school has a supportive staff team and is looking for someone who can quickly become an important part of the school community.

What we’re looking for

To be considered for this Part-Time Year 1 Teacher position, you will need:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in the UK
• Experience teaching within a primary school
• Ideally, previous experience within Year 1 or Key Stage 1
• A good understanding of phonics and early reading
• A positive and nurturing approach to classroom management
• The ability to plan engaging lessons for pupils with different needs and abilities
• An enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to complete the required clearance
• Two positive references covering your recent teaching experience
