Deborah loves to travel and immerse herself in other cultures. She has travelled extensively around Africa and Asia and has previously been to the UK for two years back in 2011/12. So, when Deb embarked on her journey to come back to the UK for a year to be with her partner having been separated due to the pandemic, she looked to Edwin Education to help her get the right balance of secondary teaching work and travel.
She said: “Knowing that I was only going to be in the UK temporarily, I wanted to do supply teaching so I could enjoy the experience of living in the UK but be flexible with work. A friend from Australia had used Edwin Education in the past and recommended them as they had a very good experience. Their relaxed, friendly, and personal approach was very noticeable, and even though I’d already made the decision to come to the UK, they greatly aided my experience and thoroughly supported me in finding work.”
Deb found that having smooth and quick communication with the agency helped make her transition to the UK a positive one. She shares: “It was very handy having staff on the ground both in Australia and in the UK. In Australia, I never had any issues with time zones and Edwin Education clearly laid out, step by step, what I needed to do. The UK staff contacted me before I left Australia to introduce themselves, explain the lay of the land in the UK and gave me the opportunity to ask any questions. They also had my first secondary school job sorted out a few weeks before I was due to start, which helped me settle in. The staff were lovely and supportive and made the whole process quick, easy and stress free.”
Living and working as a secondary teacher in the UK again, Deb has had nothing but positive experiences. She said: “So far, I’ve enjoyed the work Edwin Education has given me. They have booked me up days, sometimes weeks, in advance, which makes it easier for me to plan my travels. I’ve loved living in the UK, making new friends, having new experiences and the opportunities to travel. There is so much going on and it’s great!”
Deb continues: “I’ve also loved being able to further my career. I’ve gained experience working with the UK curriculum and learnt different ways of planning and presenting lessons, and I’ve been introduced to year levels I hadn’t previously taught. Although I’ll be moving back to Australia to start the Australian school year in January 2023, I’ve got nothing but praise for Edwin Education and the staff who have made this a very human, personal, and positive experience for me.”
