About the role

KS2 Teaching Assistant – Full Time – November 2026 Start

Location: DL1 Area, Darlington
Job Type: Full Time
Start Date: November 2026 onwards

About the Role

Working in partnership with Northern Lights Learning Trust, Vision for Education is looking to recruit a dedicated KS2 Teaching Assistant to work on a full-time basis within a mixed Year 5/6 class at a welcoming primary school in the DL1 area of Darlington.

This is an excellent opportunity for a committed, enthusiastic, and adaptable Teaching Assistant who is passionate about supporting children's learning, development, and wellbeing.

The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher to support pupils across Years 5 and 6, helping to create a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment. You will play an important role in supporting pupils' academic progress, confidence, independence, and preparation for the transition to secondary school.

This is a full-time position starting in November 2026 and continuing onwards, offering an excellent opportunity to join a supportive school environment and make a meaningful difference to pupils' educational experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the class teacher in delivering engaging and effective lessons across the KS2 curriculum.

  • Provide classroom support to pupils in a mixed Year 5/6 class.

  • Work with individuals and small groups to reinforce learning and develop pupils' understanding.

  • Provide targeted support in literacy, numeracy, reading, writing, spelling, grammar, and mathematics.

  • Help pupils develop independence, confidence, resilience, and positive learning habits.

  • Adapt learning activities and resources to meet the needs of pupils with different abilities and learning styles.

  • Support pupils who require additional help with their learning, including those with special educational needs.

  • Promote positive behaviour and maintain a safe, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment.

  • Encourage pupils to participate actively in lessons and develop a love of learning.

  • Assist with monitoring pupils' progress and identifying areas where additional support may be required.

  • Support pupils in developing the skills and confidence needed for their transition to secondary school.

  • Build positive relationships with pupils, teachers, colleagues, and other members of the school community.

  • Assist with classroom organisation, preparation of resources, and general learning activities.

  • Work collaboratively with the class teacher and wider school staff to ensure pupils receive consistent support.

  • Uphold the school's safeguarding policies, procedures, and expectations at all times.

What We're Looking For

  • Previous experience working with children in a primary school or educational setting is desirable.

  • Experience supporting pupils within Key Stage 2, particularly Years 5 and 6, would be advantageous.

  • A genuine passion for supporting children's learning, development, and wellbeing.

  • The ability to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and staff.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • A patient, caring, nurturing, and proactive approach.

  • The ability to encourage positive behaviour and support effective classroom management.

  • Confidence working with pupils individually, in small groups, and as part of a whole-class team.

  • The ability to adapt to different learning needs and support pupils of varying abilities.

  • A flexible and collaborative approach to working alongside the class teacher.

  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

  • A willingness to undertake relevant training and professional development.

  • Availability to work full-time from November 2026 onwards.
