The Teaching Assistant Role
You may support pupils with a variety of Additional Learning Needs and Special Educational Needs, including:
- Additional Learning Needs (ALN)
- Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
- Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)
- Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD)
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs (SEMH)
- Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD)
- Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
As a Teaching Assistant in Newport, your responsibilities may include:
- Providing one-to-one support and small-group interventions
- Assisting teachers with lesson delivery and classroom activities
- Supporting pupils to access learning and remain engaged throughout the school day
- Adapting resources and activities to meet individual learning needs
- Supporting communication, social development and emotional wellbeing
- Promoting positive behaviour and encouraging independence
- Building positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents/carers
- Working collaboratively within specialist education settings
- Supporting personal care where required
