Teaching Assistant – Urgently Needed

Vision for Education is looking for a full-time Teaching Assistant to join a supportive specialist school in Chepstow.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Support Worker, Care Worker or Residential Support Worker, as well as graduates looking to gain valuable experience within education.

You’ll work alongside experienced teachers and support staff, helping pupils access learning, develop their confidence and make progress both inside and outside the classroom.

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant in Chepstow, you’ll provide practical, emotional and educational support to pupils within a specialist setting.

Every day will be slightly different, with the focus on helping pupils engage with their education while developing communication, independence and social skills.

Your role could include:

  • Supporting pupils on a 1:1 or small-group basis
  • Helping children and young people access classroom learning
  • Supporting individual learning plans and targets
  • Encouraging communication, confidence and independence
  • Providing positive support with behaviour and emotional regulation
  • Helping pupils manage transitions and changes to routines
  • Preparing or adapting classroom activities and resources
  • Developing positive relationships with pupils
  • Supporting pupils during lessons, break times and wider school activities
  • Maintaining a safe, calm and welcoming learning environment
  • Working closely with teachers, support staff and other professionals

You may support pupils with a range of SEN and ALN needs, including:

  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • ADHD
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH)
  • Moderate and Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD and SLD)
  • Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
  • Sensory processing needs
  • Physical disabilities and complex learning needs

Who We're Looking For

We’re looking for someone who genuinely enjoys helping children and young people and wants to make a positive difference within a specialist education environment.

Previous school experience is useful, but it isn’t essential. Your transferable experience from care, residential settings, youth work, sports, psychology, health or social care could be equally valuable.

The successful candidate will be:

  • Patient, caring and approachable
  • Confident working with children and young people
  • Able to build strong and trusting relationships
  • Calm and consistent when dealing with challenging situations
  • Comfortable supporting pupils with additional needs
  • Positive and encouraging in their approach
  • Reliable and committed to working as part of a wider team
  • Keen to develop their experience within SEN and ALN education

A CACHE Level 2, CACHE Level 3 or similar qualification would be advantageous, but is not essential.

What You'll Receive

  • £92.56 – £100.56 per day
  • Full-time, long-term opportunity
  • Urgent start
  • Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm
  • Specialist school setting in Chepstow
  • Dedicated consultant support
  • Free CPD and specialist SEN training
  • Ongoing professional development
  • Pension and employee benefits
  • Opportunities to build a long-term career within education
